2010 Coed Web Gems
1. Player: Danielle Woods / Position: Second Base / Team: Ava's Alley
In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Mistine Wensel (Sam & Libby's) hits a shot up the middle. However, Danielle Woods, striding to her right, snags the ball with her backhand and fires an off-balance throw to first base to end the inning.
2. Player: Mistine Wensel / Position: Left Field / Team: Sam & Libby's
Rich Ranells (Harry Buffalo/Mario's Fishbowl) laces a lazy liner into short left field. Mistine, charging full speed, flings herself forward and swipes the ball, mere inches from the ground, out of the air.
3. Player: Mistine Wensel / Position: Left Field / Team: Sam & Libby's
In the bottom of the 6th, Janelle Lawver (Harry Buffalo/Mario's Fishbowl) pops a ball into short left field where Mistine makes a sliding catch in the crook of her arm. Subsequently, she fluidly transfers the ball to her throwing hand and eliminates the potential tying run in Rich Ranells, who was attempting to tag up, at third base.
4. Player: Kaitlin Smith / Position: Left Field / Team: Ava's Alley
Kaitlin Smith makes a nice running grab near the foul line in the 2nd inning of the Championship game, to rob Betty Sharpe (Sam & Libby's) of a base hit.
5. Player: Megan O'Brien, Brett Kereky / Position: First Base, Pitcher / Team: Ava's Alley
Megan O'Brien makes a great backhanded stab on a hard grounder hit by Dave "Yoda" Craig (Sam & Libby's). Megan then nicely leads her pitcher, Brett Kereky, who wisely covers first base on the play to get the speedy Star Wars Jedi.
6. Player: Jason Sefcik, Bill Bailey / Position: Shortstop, Third Base / Team: Ava's Alley
With two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning of the Championship game, Jason Sefcik makes a tremendous backhanded stop on Dave Craig's (Sam & Libby's) hard hit grounder deep in the hole at shortstop. Realizing that he does not have a play at first, Sefcik prudently throws to his third baseman, Bill Bailey, who winds up chasing down and tagging out the runner who had been trying to advance to third base.
7. Player: Dave Wensel / Position: Right Center / Team: Sam & Libby's
On Tracy Washington's (Ava's Alley) shot to right center, Dave Wensel slides on his knees to catch the ball in the air for the out.
