Harry Buffalo wins Its Second BGSD Coed Invitational

8.3.2009

Harry Buffalo continued it's run of great performances in the BGSD Invitational with a sweep through this year's 8-team bracket, taking home its second trophy in the tournament's 5-year history. The has finished either first or second every tournament since 2005. Their previous victory came in 2007. The team went through a perfect regular season, cruised to the Richmond Heights league championship and solidified it's status as the top coed team on Saturday with the win.

Things did get a little hairy for Harry Buffalo in the championship, as the #8 seed from Beachwood, Mario's Fishbowl, worked its way through the loser's bracket after an 11-2 first round loss to Harry Buffalo, but fell short in the end by a score of 8-6.

Thanks to all the participating teams, who made this year's tournament a great success! Photos will be posted soon. Tournament stats | Box Scores

Oneonta's Stacey Lewis Wins Power Player Award

8.33.2009

Power Players

Congratulations to Stacey Lewis, who overcame the odds to win this week's Power Player voting against some tough competition. With the poll usually dominated by Cleveland-area players, it is hard for voters to get behind the unknown entities playing ball in New York state, but a dominating performance by Lewis was enough to outdo the boys from C-Town. Stacey was 9-for-9 with 3 HRs and 7 RBI.

Don't forget to vote in this week's poll. Click here to view the stats and vote for the best among the following: Colleen Bernard, M. Bomani, Duane Carr, Jeff Kalton, John Mishler and Mike Vaselaney.

Birkholder Wins Weekly Award

7.20.2009

There was an 8-person field this week and the voting was closer than usual, but Steve's near-perfect 7-for-8 from the plate as leader of the top team in one of the most competitive leagues earned him a spot on the 2009 Banzuke. He beat 2008 BGSD Home Run Derby winner Derek Buell by 15 votes to take the title.

This week's nominees are: Derrick Dulgowicz (#15 in Player of the Year), Kirk Long, Holly Richards ( #7 among women), Avery Rucker (#4), TJ Staton, and with his BGSD universe-leading 4th nomination, Buddy Wolfe (#8). VOTE NOW!
